For those wondering how to get a sketchy look like this, use the large pencil brush from my brushset (third row, second brush,) with the flow set to 40~50%. The reduced flow allows you to make lighter, less dense lines that darken and form as you "sketch" over them. This is different than Opacity which simply fades the stroke. It's easier, I think, to sketch using these settings in Photoshop because it keeps things more vague. A regular round brush can be a little too hard-edged, too digital to be messy with.
Hahah compare to my 2009 expression chart of Maia: [link] eesh.
EDIT: Oh yeah! And thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone! Hahah I'm now 25. Huurrhhghh.
Nice! I like both the '09 version as well as this. Difference, imo, is that her personality and concept as a cartoon character has developed over the last years. The '09 sketches are very detailed and slick, which makes them amazing. But these are simpler yet they express...more, the feelings and emotions are clearer.
And I have to try the brush because the sketchiness of it looks really nice!

Synthesis will be amazing. Just the fact that you don't want to rush it means it'll probably be that much more amazing. Keep up the good work!
well done
