[Wacom Photoshop & Painter Guide]

Part 02.
This is a continuation of the first tutorial "Beginner Tablet Tips"

This sheet builds on the importance of LAB and CMYK color and the effective use of roundness and angle changes in your work to get a more "Painterly" painted feel out of photoshop.

This is more of a techniques tip-sheet rather than a tutorial.

I just want 2 know one thing...
WHY color blending power depends upon h/ware rather than the s/ware?
WHY can't blend colors with mouse only?
hope u'll satisfy me.
Kinky-Slingy Featured By Owner Nov 22, 2007   Digital Artist
What do you mean color blending can't be done with a mouse and depends on hardware rather than software?, are you asking why you can't do this on ms paint, but you CAN on photoshop? 'cause that's a silly question...
you can color blend with a mouse if you're creative enough to make it happen.
Al-Kabeer Featured By Owner Nov 23, 2007
OK :-o

Hey, I wanna do a comic but instead of drawing it in real life, I want to do it entirely on the computer with my Wacom Graphire. What do you suggest doing the comic in, Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter (I have both) or both? If both, how so???

Great advice on the CMYK vs. RGB for printing. Found that one out the hard way once, and it's worth avoiding. Thanks for the info!

Awesome tutorial! I didn't know...well, any of that. I'll have to look into it in the future.
Aliah-Carina Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2006  Student
Wow! Thanks, really great tutorial, both of them! I thought I was pretty able in PS, but after this...Well. I'll definately be practicing about quite a bit more. One little problem though, in your detail bursh suggestion it has something 'Initial Direction Control', and I can't find that on my brush settings :/ Any thoughts? Again, great tutorial. I came here through a list of favourite tutorials by someone on LJ if you were wondering. I can link you if you want =)
Aliah-Carina Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2006  Student
Why don't we both just pretend that said detail brush suggestion?
jaakobou Featured By Owner May 26, 2006
awesome tutorial
i enjoyed it thoroughly

on the nitpicks...
i my opinion, it might be better to work in rgb 16bit instead of cmyk 8bit
for the capability that image enhancing techniques can give you complete
fluidity in color and a much larger color space.

after the general work is done, you switch to cmyk
and make final cmyk to rint adjusments... but i'm not an expert
on painting digitally... more of an advanced pic enhancment guy

drop by the club -

we'd love to feature this tutorial.

fox-orian Featured By Owner May 27, 2006  Professional Digital Artist
yeah, there are alot of ways to go about a final product in CMYK -- hell, you can even work in RGB 8-bit and use nothing but the CMYK color sliders [though not recommended.]

I do enjoy working in 32-bit RGB sometimes mwahah. High Dynamnic Range = my love (at least for 3D or photographic work, since it dosent have too much other implementation right now]
zulu-eos Featured By Owner May 6, 2006  Professional Digital Artist
I just might have to use some of these techniques for latest pencil work.

fox-orian Featured By Owner Apr 22, 2006  Professional Digital Artist
Yeah, essentially CMYK is the same thing as LAB. LAB uses L a and b. L is technically the K slider. A is Magenta and B is Cyan and Yellow. So LAB just uses a different layout. The real difference is that LAB can get neon flourescent colors while CMYK cant -- good for if you are doing printwork.

Oh my god, this is a fantastic tutorial! I just got a WACOM tablet recently and this is just the kind of thing I needed to improve!
