Scanned tone samples can almost never print correctly from a laser or ink jet printer. Noticeable patterning and moire can occur if you try. REAL SCREEN TONING IS ACHIEVED BY BITMAP HALF TONING.

Some users have been wondering how some swatches containing partially incomplete patterns are usable in Photoshop. The truth is, they are not usable. The key point of this tutorial is to get you to think about how Photoshop can be used to complete this type of work differently. I supply some sample patterns just to get you started and to understand the concept of what I show here, but I make no guarantee that all of these patterns are all you will ever need. The limitations of the Pattern Maker software can't make heads or tails of the smaller partial patterns such as the background textures, so you will never be able to get a seamless tiling sample out of them. What I do encourage you to do in this tutorial is to buy screentones you may want to use in a project and scan them before using them in real life. This way you end up having very large, high quality digital copies of the screen tones you buy ready to be used digitally -- it's like the money you spent for them lives on forever! The sample patterns supplied with this tutorial are only what they are -- SAMPLES. You can get some things done with these samples, but I would also be stealing business from the companies that make the tones!
