Painting via Adjustment Layers by fox-orian Painting via Adjustment Layers by fox-orian
Updated description written in April 2013:
This is a funky tutorial I made back in the day before I learned how to paint with straight-up color. These days I'd recommend using these filters for COLOR CORRECTION ONLY, not painting an entire image with them like I do here in the tutorial. Still, the tutorial serves its purpose to introduce you to how powerfully helpful adjustment layers are.

Enjoy all the same!

This is awesome. I have been using layer masks for years to color, and even an adjustment layer here and there, but to use them as assistants like this and to control the lighting and temperature of the piece is a brilliant idea! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this (as well as your other stuff.)

This is super amazing and helpful. My mom just gave me her old Wacom tablet and I had no idea how to truly use it! Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've just got started with digital painting, and have been having enormous trouble keeping my light and shadows separate. After messing around with 'multiply' for ages, what a relief to find a technique which doesn't touch the underlying pixels!

It's really clearly written, and I like the way you go through every single step, so even non-techies like me can find the right place to click.

Thanks again - now I have pretty colours to play with!

this an incredible asset. i've read so many of the coloring tutorials and this the first one that really helped, not only with coloring but playing with the layers. i hate my coloring because i haven't been able to the tones right and i think this will really help. Thank you for sharing! :glomp:
