Quick Lighting, Fox's Way by fox-orian Quick Lighting, Fox's Way by fox-orian
Another quickie tutorial!

This highlights a form of lighting I like to use in some of my images. You could say that this is very similar to my "Coloring via Adjustment Layers" tutorial, except this is a little more to-the-point, without trying to cram in a lot of lessons on Adjustment Layers either.

Anyway, enjoy the simplicity of it all!

Did the tutorial. Really love it. The in deep understanding of light really makes life easier.
Here's my result. A little bit goofy. Not used to working trough adjustment layers.

I always tend to make my shadows with dark blue fills...simply masking out the light layer where light wouldn't hit actually makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Your tutorial quickies are pretty much the most inspiring things I've ever found on dA. I read them and think to myself "wow, with some effort, I could actually do that". Normally tutorials I find here seem so...out of my league? So beyond me. Yours never feel that way, so it's really great when I save them and read them. Thanks for making them.

Thank you, this is really helpful. I like the way you have distilled this process down to simple steps.

One note: I think you mean Ambient Occlusion when you say "radiosity", although I'm not sure because the term "Ambient Occlusion" may apply only to the CG algorithms by that name. At any rate, the darkening occurs because ambient light rays are occluded by nearby surfaces. Thus, the more recessed a surface is, the less ambient light it receives. The effect is not created if only direct lighting is taken into account.

YES I meant Ambient Occlusion -- thank you very much for spotting that hahaahha. I finished this late at night and I was like "why do I feel like radiosity is the wrong word...? .... .... no pretty sure it's okay."

Definetly an intresting way of doing things, but will it work for more complex shapes? I find shadows cast by people to be very tricky buisness, not to mention a whole scene.
