This is one of the reasons that Page 005 is taking so long. I'm making a series of meticulously drawn backgrounds that I can use in the panels, multiple times even, if the scene calls for it.

The background is kept with absolute minimum shading since the lighting will change from use to use of this background throughout SYNTHESIS.

The particular background I'm showing you is the entrance/exit to Maia's apartment located on the roof of her building. She has to take the emergency stairs on the right to get down to the street.

Ink + Paper + Ruler
Cleanup + extra detailing in Photoshop + Cintiq 12WX

the lines are so fine I first thought it was done in Illustrator (what a pain it would be to do it though)
it's incredibly well done, especially with this amount of cool details!
