(Original) background I created tonight, going for a more graphic painterly approach, sort of what you might see in animation backgrounds for television. (I have a shot at a job if I can show I got the chops -- so I'm trying to create work outside of my usual style.) I applied a lot of what I learned here from my Samurai Jack background study here: [link]
This was honestly a lot of fun to do. I like doing all of my other usual work, but there was something about this that was actually entertaining as I got into it.
Critiques enabled well, cuz I'm interested in what you think!
Photoshop CS5, my brush set, something like 4-5 hours.
Even though the place seems well lit, I really think its missing some shadows. Maybe even darker under pipes or something. Loving the lighting and reflection colors a lot though.
Sorry for the double post! Something you might also enjoy taking some inspiration from is older Looney Toons background paintings! Gosh how they push perspective! Its so wild and fun to look at!
I am always a fan of beautifully done animation backgrounds. Best of luck for the job! I enjoy the textured look and the stylized feel of the perspective! Depending on the show you could probably push the craziness a bit further if you wanted to! Right now it feels like the line at the bottom of the left side is the furthest pushed out there (probably because of the line on the floor right next to it) So it stands out a bit much. (Perhaps adding a bit of curvature on the floorline would help that feeling?) But I really like the colourscheme and the the style! All in all it looks really great! Love it!
