Syn-Thesis was a project completed for my senior year at AIB. My goal was to create five highly finished comic pages based on the very early development of Synthesis. The pages have no bearing on the final Synthesis story.
Excellent details this look great. I personally don't like the font that much for the speech, cuz i think it's a bit too cartoony and doesn't match the drawing style. But nonetheless I think it looks awesome:]
The problem is that I haven't settled on a font yet. I've been debating making my own font, because I don't like any other font currently available. So many are too generic and almost as annoying as Comic Sans itself. [Anime Ace, Fanboy, and Digital Strip from Blambot are some of the most commonly used ones that come to mind.]
There are some good looking fonts out there, but they can also become expensive, hurhrhurgh.
Get this, the font used here is LaCartooniste, and even then I had reduce its width by 15% to make it look less "round."
I'm still debating whether or not I want a font is nothing but capitals or to use lower case letters as well.
Yeah, it's true, sometimes it's really much easier to just create something so that it is exactly how you want it. Fonts are so crucial to comics :] I don't really know how much effort it takes to create a font, but if that's what's gonna work best, go for it. :] I suggest you should stick with upper and lower case because all uppercase letters remind me too much of those classic American comics like Justice League or those comic strips on newspaper.
There, I did some research and managed to get my hands on a professional font called VTC Letterer. It's an all caps font, but contains variations for each character based on whether or not you held shift. It's a good looking font.
I also found out that all caps is an actual feature of what makes word bubbles so easy to read. There's a strange science behind it, but it makes your brain happier as you read.
Your art is incredible!
Good work!!
Seriously, Matt, these are looking good. Your photoshop toning is ace.
Great attention to detail.
