Warm Afternoon by fox-orian Warm Afternoon by fox-orian
Just a fun little slice of life picture I decided to do on and off for the past day.

I wanted to try a full semi speed-painted scene WITHOUT using shift constraints or a ruler on my Cintiq. So I had at the picture fully freehand. I like the looser look this has compared to the exactness some of my other work has. Maia's just kinda plopped into the picture pretty lazily. I wasn't focusing on her so much, I was more interested in finishing this location hahah.

Hope you enjoy this new kind of picture from me :)

Little fact: this location was inspired by an alley I live near.

Wow for some reason I REALLY dig your use of lighting. Reminds me of my childhood for some reason - the bright summer sky and calm winds and cicadas. Awesome work

it's so funny when you click on a tutorial and find it's by an artist you already thought was cool!

all your pics: great great great! they got their own individual atmosphere which I like ! :)

(and I just saw, that some of your influences is mirrors edge. Well yes, your pictures look like they show the daily life on the streets of the mirrors edge city. I always wondered how it looks like own there and hey, this comes close. :) )

Like it! Keep up the good work and your style!

Very nice! And very slice of life. And to repeat what others have already said, I really need to work on my own environments and backgrounds (which can be characters in and of themselves, if there's anything your art has taught me). I also appreciate all the tutorials you've uploaded. Once I get my tablet, I'll have to try my hand at practicing them.

Yup.
Don't be afraid to walk down some side street or into an area that SEEMS private property. Most of the time they're not. The alley I walked down that contained this kind of scenery looked like a private driveway, when in fact there were businesses in there, meaning it was just fine for any old person to just walk down.

Go behind buildings, under bridges, and into courtyards.

You never know what you can find if you don't look :)
Just dont go somewhere if you feel it might actually be dangerous to do so.

Here's some photos I've taken from places I've explored around Boston:

I see your main gun is your camera :P
There it is an habit I should gain. I have a relatively good camera for an amateur but I am so afraid to leave home with it since it might get stolen :(
I'm so idiotic xD

I've taken thousands of photos all over Boston of things that may inspire me for a picture some day.

I own three different cameras -- an SD450, G9, and EOS 40D. I make it a point to NEVER leave home without one of these on me.

I will create that habit. I live near Lisbon and truth is, a city with medieval roots is always scenic. I am sure I can find inspiring locations. Thanks :)

You seriously inspire me to draw backgrounds. I just love these little scenes were people look truly at home @_@
I love the loose look too <3 The colouring style even reminds me of markers somewhat? It must be the texture or something...
Anyway, wonderful work :D

It's easiest to find inspiration in places you actually live right? I was working on some backgrounds for a comic, and suddenly it was so much more easier because the story was actually taking place in Holland.
